Luxor City is considered the most important and famous archeological site in the world. It contains more than 35% of the monument in the world.

Luxor means Palaces by Arabic language, when the Arabs entered to Luxor for the first time, they fascinated by its huge temples so they resembled It as the palaces. It was called Thebes by Greek Roman.

Luxor was one of the oldest capitals in ancient Egypt and its glory started with the Middle and  New Kingdom as it became  center for the main cult of God Amun Ra to whom dedicated most of the temples there as Karnak temple , Luxor Temple and etc..

Luxor city is divided to Eastern bank and Western Bank of the Nile.

At western Bank, they consider it as place for burial because ancient Egyptian believed that the sun set in the western horizon was the symbol of death, so there they built all their tombs for kings  and Queens as Valley of The Kings and Valley Of The Queens. Even the normal people built their tombs there as we found the workers tombs.  they built also all the mortuary temples there as Queen Hatshepsut Temple and Ramssium temple.

At Eastern Bank of the Nile, they considered it as the world life for them so they built there their houses and all the temples that they can use it daily for their rituals.

You can visit at Easter bank the biggest temple in the world Karnak Temple where you can see most of the kings of the New Kingdom added some buildings inside.  Also you can visit Luxor Temple which witnessed the mixture of different civilization as you can see inside building for Greek, anther for ancient Egyptian and also for Coptic Christianity and Islam.
